Recently, Shanxi Wanxinyuan Technology Co., Ltd.’s annual production project of 710 tons of thiophene series products and prasugrel pharmaceutical intermediates, located in the western area of Lucheng Economic and Technological Development Zone in Changzhi City, was officially put into operation. With a total investment of 108 million yuan and covering an area of 35.69 mu, the project is a benchmark enterprise for the transformation and extension of Shanxi’s coal chemical industry toward high-end, refined, and green development.
Using thiophene, a by-product of coal coking, as the starting raw material, the company has adopted its independently developed green refining process to achieve large-scale production of high-purity thiophene series pharmaceutical intermediates, including 2-thiophenecarboxylic acid, 2-acetylthiophene, 3-acetylthiophene, and prasugrel. This has successfully created a circular economy closed loop from “coal chemical waste to high value-added pharmaceutical raw materials.”
The project’s official operation marks a solid step forward for Shanxi Province in the field of fine processing of coal chemicals, injecting new momentum into regional economic transformation and industrial upgrading.
